  1. I am a bit biased, but the Allied Control Commission left Finland in 1947. Traditional democratic parties gained a total of 16 deputies in the 1948 election, while the Communists lost 11. By 1949, all the convicts of the war-responsibility trials had been released on parole. Basically, the 1945 election was a failed coup attempt, and Helsinki was not captured during WW2. Quite incredible, considering that there are more people living in London than in the whole of Finland. Admittedly, harsh climate and geography, as in St. Petersburg.
