  2. Without looking deeper into the matter. I think you need about three times more troops than the defender, for a breakthrough. Although the Germans were experiencing fatigue, the problem of non- or mis-firing soldiers has probably been exaggerated. Of course, the Soviet superiority was greater during the Winter War. It is worth remembering that 15 sovereign states emerged and re-emerged from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in its breakup.
