I wish the US would have dissolved into two countries without a fight, in the 1860s. But I don't worry about it.

@dermotrooney9584 Despite that setback, by late 1944, four countries switched from the Axis Powers to the Allies. In the case of Mannerheim, he switched from the Russian Empire (1914-17) to German Empire (1918), and later from Finland (1939-40) to the Axis Powers (1941-44), and lastly to the Allies (1944-45). In my opinion, the United States could have skipped the whole western front, but that's alternative history.

The Germans took some 260 civilians as hostages in Finnish Lapland, but they later released the prisoners unharmed. Although the Germans' delaying scorched earth and land mine strategies devastated Finnish Lapland, military impacts were relatively limited. Interestingly, at that time, it was said that the Sami people had Asian blood. Recent genetic studies have indicated that the "Nganassan" autosomic component now makes up more than 25% in the Sami.
