A robber's cross added to the Cross of Saint Peter would make sense, but this is just a guess.

Good point, there are so many NCOs that they are often overlooked in these documentaries. This 100 year old SS-Rottenführer is quite experienced, looks like a skull in his hat : )...Veikko Kasslin also fought against the Germans and Austrians in Lapland. He won the National Cycling Championship (Workers' Sports Federation) in 1945, which might explain his long life. https://www.suomensotilas.fi/ss-mies-veikko-kasslin-100-vuotta/

Spoiler alert. Although Friedrich Paulus was a sick man, he was the epitome of a corrupt leader. He never took responsibility for his failure. Even Karl Dönitz, at least in his later years, criticized the lack of criticism.

@TheImperatorKnight Paulus should not obey bad orders, even if it costs his life. Ultimately, the army commander feeds his troops or is in the wrong job. This was already written at the time in a German Army field manual.

@nukclear2741 Sure, the long winning streak had blinded them, but Paulus should have used common sense. Alexei Vinogradov was shot because of a similar mistake. I mean the captain goes down with the ship. A couple of years ago the Costa Concordia captain was sentenced to a 16-year prison sentence.

@nukclear2741 Or, in the case of Finland, half a battalion. Hitler and Göring sank with the ship. Dönitz was appointed, so he didn't have to submerge in a submarine.
