  1. The East German security forces and the Wehrmacht soldiers were literally the same people. From their point of view it was a civil war. Also, the notorious StG 44 remained in service with the Volkspolizei until the early 1960s.

  2.  @electricdazz  That's also true for what you said. The similarity of ideologies could be one factor that led to the German defeat. Paulus was too weak to serve, yet several other generals continued to work in East Germany.
