@metaphorpritam There are many Tsarist era buildings in Finland, even here in the lake region. Also, look at the buildings in St Petersburg. They had a nice time before WW1. Russia has not recovered from the persecution of Christians, but certainly things are better today than before. @fabiofaria4243 Sweden is now suffering from gullibility and is turning into Michigan.

@slavk5490 In defense of Russia, they were 30 years ahead of the Chinese.

True, but even democratic socialism can go too far. It seems to me (based on polls) that the majority longs for a period of social conservatism and direct democracy, which the SDP also supported until 1952. Apart from agriculture, Finland had a free trade agreement with both the eastern bloc and the EEC since the 1970s. Interestingly, due to the virus, the Socialists are now pursuing rather conservative policies against their ideology.

@0donny I couldn't imagine queuing to get to Mozambique. Although people voted with their feet, perhaps East Germany was the only livable communist country. Or maybe on some isolated island belonging to Cuba.

@fabiofaria4243 Yeah, It's truly remarkable how the Nordic countries are like separate Lego bricks. I guess, the Swedes never recovered from the war of 1809 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandels_(beer)

@tomjustolsen1079 Don’t get me wrong, I like the Nordic countries, but in reality these are harsh places. We are rich in natural resources. It's worth comparing populations, for example: Baltoscandia 33 million, Canada 37 million, Philippines alone over 100 million.

@tomjustolsen1079 Jenni Haukio is the only woman who has ever given birth during her husband's tenure of office. If Finland were an easy place, there would already be 100 million Finns.

@360Nomad Depends on nationality and situation. Surprisingly, in Lapland, they did not destroy churches in 1945. Perhaps they had finally found Christianity.

Russia is still doing better than Vietnam, but it's a mistake to assume that the rest of the world is like Hungary. With 100% certainty, the Communists died of starvation in the 1980s. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derg

@Erich Kirk Finland had a population of 80,000 during the early Middle Ages, and grew slowly but surely into empire. However, the last famine was 80 years before the Soviet famine.
1
@Erich Kirk If the Tsar had lived, perhaps the last famine would have occurred in 1920s. Obviously in the Siberian climate, some people die anyway.

@johnburns4017 At times, it is difficult to recognize what is National Socialism due to varying symbols, non compos mentis, or because the political agenda is in practice organized crime. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neozapatismo https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist_rebellion_in_the_Philippines

@johnburns4017 Finland definitely had national-socialist features from 1973 to 1982, albeit Urho Kekkonen was somewhat more educated than average dictator. He was accused of collaborating with Stalin, which he denied by referring to Dr. Söderhjelm's book "Tre resor till Moskva". According to Kekkonen, there was only one historical truth.
