  1. Sea water is reasonably conductive, and would short active to earth once it entered the outlet. This would blow the fuse protecting that circuit, or (more likely for Europe) trip the ELCB protecting that circuit. (ELCBs installed to minimise the likelihood of electrocution are rated to trip at no more than 30mA leakage current, but typically trip between 15 and 30 mA.)

  2.  @yuusachiibochii6398  Yep, midship is a horizontally-referenced term, not vertically-referenced. It means go the spot on the deck midway between port and starboard sides - they wouldn't want people crowding to windows, etc, looking to see what's outside.
