@iprogeny4877 We have some people from the USA who have moved here to Australia. They're also enjoying the safety, the subsidized healthcare, and the ability to own a gun under a licensing scheme that keeps guns out of the hands of the loonies.

Well said, both your original comment and your edit. The fact that people could somehow misconstrue your original comment indicates that they're part of the problem - they support someone who came after these girls long after they ceased being a threat. If those people who misconstrued your comment want to know what the problem is in the USA today, they need do nothing more than look in the mirror - the problem will be staring straight back at them!

@Creative_Melly Merely an observation that this sort of thing isn't happening in other Western societies where there's a form of gun licensing. If the situation continues in the USA then there will be a hell of a lot more mourning to come. ☹️

@byunniq9060 It's just an observation that it's not happening in other Western societies with some form of gun licensing in place. I am sorry for you if this observation offends you. I guess one becomes normalised to this sort of violence after a while?

@carewser Laughter is probably the only way people can stay sane in this situation. It's an emotional release, not an indication that they find anything funny.

It has got to the point where you cannot afford to make any mistakes - it could be the last thing you and those with you ever do.

@soulwarrior7721 This wasn't "split second". Young woman opens door, realises mistake, goes to correct car while apologizing - guy gets out of car and starts shooting. If I was the guy I would've locked the passenger door, and when she apologized would've said "It's ok, but be careful next time!" I wouldn't then have pulled some hardware and started brassing up her and those with her.

@Vendemiair The Founding Fathers needed a readily accessible army (the militia) to defend the country (to prevent Britain from reneging on the treaty that ended the American Revolutionary War), so the original intent is understandable. However, since then the USA has developed a military capability including the regular forces, the reserves, and national guards. In the eyes of those who feel the need to own weapons, this isn't sufficient to ensure the USA's safety. And those people have the backing of the courts who interpret the Constitution, and if course organisations like the NRA who can destroy a politician's career.
