BTW, Japan was also at war with the Netherlands: seizing the Dutch East Indies colony, sinking Dutch ships, capturing and imprisoning (and executing) Dutch service personnel, and destroying Dutch aircraft (a whole lot of seaplanes were caught at anchor when the Japanese bombed Broome on Australia's northern coast). In return, the Dutch submarines operating out of Fremantle, WA, were busy sinking Japanese shipping.
