  1. The Allies actually had the Germans fooled with some of their radio broadcasts. They had a station called "Atlantic Sender" which the Germans thought was one of theirs. This was part of the Allies Psy Ops. They'd play music, and read announcements (in German) about the hometowns of U-boat sailors, etc, so there would've been a few Germans who were exposed to music from the Allied side. Apart from that, of course, the German population could've tuned into the BBC or the equivalent to the AFRTS. Even though the very affordable radios available to the public, e.g. Volksempfänger, were a bit deaf (purposely, to keep down costs but the government only wanted the people to listen to German stations) they'd still hear further away after dark with an external antenna. However; listening to foreign stations was a crime in Germany after the war started, so one would've had to be very careful about when to listen, with whom to listen, and to whom to speak about it.

  4. There reason why people want to assume Glenn Miller was wiped out deliberately is because people like to believe in something mysterious. Recently I read an article in which researchers claimed that humans are wired to believe in the mysterious, which is why we're inclined to be religious. Religions are great mysteries. For an example, look no further than Christianity's book, The Bible. In the earlier part there's a great flood, a burning bush, a pillar of fire, an ark which gets carried around and from which the "Power" or "Voice" of God emanates, a sea that parts and lets people cross to safety, an entire city razed and a woman turned into a pillar of salt, a guy called Ezekiel who describes something akin to an aircraft - "I'll have some of whatever he was having, thanks!" - just to name a few instances. In the latter part it's just as good: there's walking on water, turning water into wine, raising people from the dead, feeding thousands with a few loaves and fishes, driving out demons, transfiguring into three entities, disappearing from a tomb, appearing on the road to Emmaus, tongues of fire, and ascending upstairs. We're so wired for believing the mysterious we can't help ourselves. In this modern age, we're only just starting to eclipse our ancestors as the biggest conspiracy theorists to have ever walked the Earth.

  5.  @idontcareanymore2754  Add to that the depth at which the plane would've sank, compared to the depth at which the RMS Titanic sank - very difference environments when it comes to corrosion. Also, any fisherman bringing up a war wreck would need to be very wary: how would they know whether the plane they're dredging up has ammunition still onboard, and how stable would that ammunition be?

  8. I agree that engine icing or being hit with a jettisoned bomb are the simplest and most likely explanations of this mystery. There was a Psy Ops activity - not sure if Miller was involved at all - where music (among other things) was broadcast: a medium wave station in the UK called Soldatensender Calais.

It reminds me of a couple of the kids at school - they were always telling tall tales to impress or scare the rest of us ... still remember "Patrick R" telling us about how a particular sort of lightning bolt would crack the world in two, LOL! And one of the others saying the concrete structure in the middle of the school ground was a WW2 bunker (there used to be a bunker there, but that wasn't it). LOL.   17.  @1maico1  Even an unarmed bomb falling from altitude would kick up a lot of water. Lots of unarmed bombs falling from altitude would be quite something to weave through, especially at low altitude due to weather. Then there's the possibility of merely being impacted by a bomb, armed or otherwise. As I wrote in a comment earlier on where someone claimed that a plane being hit by a bomb was highly unlikely, it happened. There are stories of larger bombing raids where various flights bombed at different altitudes to avoid collisions, but also were supposed to bomb at slightly different times to avoid hitting each other, but one fight or the other would arrive out of sync, resulting the lower flight flying through a rain of bombs - and planes did get hit.

  18.  @ethan6322  Lots of people nowadays are looking at what those people commemorated with statues really did. Some things they did don't stand the decency test of today (e.g. promoted slavery), so the statues are being pulled down. But it's not limited to the USA. The Iraqis - with US help - pulled down the statue of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad. But then a US serviceperson undid all that work by covering it with a US flag - you could see the mood of the crowd change the moment that happened. ☹️

  19. There are incidences where bombs (inert or otherwise) struck planes below them. There's evidence here and there, e.g. famous picture of a B17 on mission over Europe - still flying with half its horizontal stabiliser (tail) missing, the war memoirs of bomber command navigator whose colleague returned some months after escaping as a POW in Germany: "What happened?" "Bombs were dropped on us, only two of us got out and the other bloke is still a POW." It happened.
