@g8ymw I had the pleasure of knowing two gentlemen who served in the RAAF on Beaufighters in the Pacific theatre. Sadly both of them have passed - one only this year. There is some debate about the "Whispering Death" name for the Beaufighter - it was said that the Japanese called it that, but there's a suspicion that was made up by a war correspondent.

Which Austrian would that be?

@SuperEdge67 From his response to other comments on this video, it seems he gets very triggered by the British designing anything useful ... and especially if anyone has the sheer hide to allege that it was better than something designed in the USA.

It was known as "The Flying Coffin" - the Mitsubishi Zero could fly faster in level flight than the Buffalo could in a dive. The RAAF also used it ... until they got their hands on some Kittyhawks and used them in the defence of Port Moresby.

@RCAvhstape I was shocked at how uninterested BuOrd seemed in fixing the torpedo problem ... one could be forgiven for thinking they were thinking "Hey, you're the dumb bunnies putting your lives on the line, not us - we're happy living the high life back in the States ... not our problem, fella!" After yet another patrol where the torpedoes failed to detonate and they had to sink Japanese shipping with the deckgun, a US submarine commander arranged to testfire some torpedoes near Fremantle, Western Australia (where many US submarines were based). That testfiring helped identify why the exploder wasn't working properly.
