I have a copy of his co-authored book Under Ten Flags which is a fascinating "read" - especially how Atlantis captured the SS Automedon and its trove of secret documents. The latter were sent to Japan directly, and influenced the Japanese military's decision to enter the war.

Bob Mason in his book Chickenhawk mentions serving with a UH-1 "slick" pilot who claimed to have flown in the Luftwaffe in WW2. Mason doesn't use real surnames (except his own, and those of famous people) in his book - he called this guy "Gottler". Mason also served with an American who'd flown gliders in the Pacific theatre in WW2, fighters in Korea, and then transitioned to helicopters to fly in Vietnam. That guy's nickname in Chickenhawk was Leese, but I read somewhere his real name was Kees or something similar.
