  5. Years ago I worked with a guy in his early 30's who'd emigrated from Germany. He held a private pilot's licence, and I went flying with him one day. Afterwards when he was logging his hours, I noticed a photo in his logbook ... featuring none other than Hermann Goering inspecting some pilots. I asked about it - the pilot pictured speaking with Goering was this guy's father! Sadly, he was killed towards the end of the war one night when they took off in a Fieseler Storch and it crashed soon after - the investigation strongly indicated that the aircraft had been sabotaged.
