  2. The name of this mine due to translation error or similarity of words between two languages reminded me of the infamous "Knee Mortar" used by the Japanese. A very light mortar with a shovel-like base plate built into it, an error in translating Japanese documents resulted in the name the allied forces gave it. Some GIs and Marines figured it must be called that because you put one knee on the ground and support the mortar with your thigh while firing it. Apparently after a few people suffered compound fractures of the thigh, word got around ...
