  3. Those who can't afford to live in the city can go to a 3 or 4th tier city, which is much cheaper than 1st tier city like Shanghai. It is about whether one can afford to stay (1st tier) or not. And there is no shame living in 3 or 4th tier. ONly the wealthy can afford to live in 1st tier with a min. monthly salary (after tax) of 12k rmb. And those with higher mortgages need at least 15k rmb per month.
