  2. That’s because you don’t understand how this works. You don’t know who owes the debt, or who it is owed to. You don’t understand where the debt is coming from. You think it’s all run the same way a household is. If your account is in the red, and you make more money, you can get out of the red. That’s not how this works. The vast majority of the national debt is owed directly to the US citizenry. Tax cuts (putting money back in the citizenry’s pockets) accompanying spending cuts (which saves money) can absolutely reduce the national debt, somewhat. But the national debt is no longer something that can be erased. It’s been totally insurmountable since 2008.
