Classical Liberals were pro individual rights, pro free markets, pro gun rights, pro sound money (gold backed USD), anti war, anti welfare state. Classical Liberalism was somewhat similar to Libertarianism. None of those values have ever had anything in common with the party of slavery - the Democrat Party. Anyway, it is important that people not co-opt terms like “classical liberal” in the belief that it had anything ever to do with the Democrat party because it never did. And this is why I have a very difficult time calling leftists "liberals" since they co-opted the term decades ago. If I do then I always preface "liberal" as "left liberal."
