  1. Diamonds (natural diamonds) are not rare. Gold (which is everywhere, and clearly takes up most of the volume of engagement rings) is rarer than diamonds! The only, so called, rare part of diamonds, is that you need to dig much deeper to find them, wheras say gold can sometimes be a foot down if you're lucky enough to find a nugget). Diamonds are not rare! There's even an entire planet that is said to be completely diamond. What makes a natural diamond different to a synthetic diamond? Truly in looks, you could say zero. Jewelers will be the 1st to admit that you cannot tell the difference between the 2. No big manifying glass, or shining lights into them will ever confirm their difference (except as mentioned sophisticated expensive machinery not found at local jewelery stores! ). The difference is: A natural diamond takes about 1 BILLION years to make! And most diamonds are about 3 BILLION years old! It is impossible for a human's brain to fathom a billion of anything, even a million! The human brain evolved to not count but to compare numbers of things. An easy example representing the limitation of the human brain is the following: The difference between 2 and 5 is much easier to visualize than the difference between 62 and 65, despite the fact that both number sets differ by only 3 As such a 3 billion year old diamond (close to the earliest life ever found of 3.5 billion years, being microbes!! )is extremely massively incredibly uninmaginably old. A synthetic diamond could have been made yesterday! The end.
