  1. Yeah but you do stop your enemy if that damage is too great. This would plunge us into a depression, millions would die due to lack of energy, and we'd be easy pickings for China or some other foreign entity.

  2.  @AdrianFahrenheitTepes  we'd be in a heavily weakened state if we cut off all energy production. And I doubt China would be alone.
