The assumption that there are only 3 nonwhite people who can lead an NFL team is just plain ridiculous. It's a Jesus complex. In my opinion, it has less to do with which coaches are "best at the job" and more to do with "who the owners can relate with best." No different than the type of discrimination in any other high level line of business. Rich white people simply feel more comfortable dealing with other white people, excluding everyone else.

@shoca3427 Lovie Smith from Chicago. Jim Cladwell from Detriot. Brian Flores from Miami. All black, all were fired after being fairly successful. Lovie Smith and Jim Caldwell were both followed by white coaches that did no better but somehow lasted longer in their head coaching roles. In fact, Detroit has been an utter disaster since they fired Caldwell. The suit filed by Brian Flores is a class-action lawsuit, so you can see by all the people involved in the suit who was affected by this kind of discrimination.

And there are plenty of available and highly qualified black people who could coach a team. It's just that these rich white owners have no interest in hiring someone black to lead their team (regardless of talent). Half these coaches get hired based on connections and family, which obviously leaves out lots of black talent. Not to mention that a successful black coach will almost always get fired before a failing white coach will get fired. The white coaches always get the benefit of the doubt. But if the black coach doesn't win a Super Bowl within his first couple years, he gets fired. Even if he consistently made it to the playoffs. And often gets replaced with a white coach who is much worse.

@W81Researcher Why are you trying to defend them?? They are clearly in the wrong. The point is not "how long Lovie Smith was with the team." The point is how long he was Head Coach. Before he was fired and replaced by someone who was far worse. It is a pattern. But they got caught in the act trying to screw over Brian Flores and are now are stuck in a class-action lawsuit. There is no defense.

I know right. How dare the richest nation in the world care about ending racial inequality. Instead of focusing on issues within our own borders, we should spend more time invading other countries.
