Comments by "Marcus W" (@Mawyou) on "Biden Nominates Shalanda Young To Be Office of Management & Budget Director" video.
She's been working on federal budgets and spending in Congress for 15 years and is already acting director. This just makes it official. Not to mention she has broad bipartisan support in the Senate.

It would be hard to find someone more qualified than her for this role. She's been doing basically the same thing in Congress for 15 years. And she's been acting director since thr beginning of the year already after Neera Tanden's nomination was dropped. Republicans themselves were saying they would prefer Shalanda over who Biden originally nominated

It would be difficult to be more qualifies than she is for the job. She's been handling federal budgets and spending for thr past 15 years. And she's already acting director

@Hatorian1 So basically you're saying that Buttigieg is not qualified for his position. Neither was Donald Trump's pick for Energy, EPA, or Housing and Development. Zero related experience. Were you complaining then? A president with no government experience. Were you complaining? Now back to Shalanda Young. She has 15 years of related experience and bipartisan support in the Senate that ealier confirmed her as Deputy Director. But you came to the comments section to trash her. Why?

Conservatives think diversity is automatically bad for them. They felt much more comfortable when people running things were 98% white (plus a token black person so they don't look bad).
1
Republicans don't like black people. They get especially irked when a black person is in charge of something. They automatically assume they aren't qualified without giving the same scrutiny to white people who served in the same role.
1
It would be hard to be more qualified than she is for this job. Do you have any idea what she's done for the past 15 years? Broad support from both parties in the Senate.
1
@Swirvine76 Just about every OMB director in history had a Bachelor of Arts degree. The only other alternative is a Bachelor of Science. Why are you giving her education higher scrutiny because she's black?
1
Most OMB directors either studied government or law. Not accounting. Please explain to me how she is not qualified if everyone else was. She handle budgeting in Congress for 14 years and has already been acting director for a year. I encourage you to check your bias. You're giving her heavier scrutiny just because she is black.
1
And that is what were taking about when we say there is systemic racism. You don't want to hire someone because they have a black-sounding name. Racism in hiring, solely based on a name.
1
@jefflindeman Many of the things you think are funny were never funny to black and brown people. What frustrates you is that now society tells you to respect the feelings of people who don't look like you. You call it PC. The rest of us call it respect.
1
@lk3309 Well she is highly qualified. She has spent the past 15 years working on federal budgets and spending in Congress. Not to mention she is already the acting director since Neera Tanden had her nomination pulled earlier this year. Officially nominating her is just a formality.
1
And most other OMB directors had degrees in law or government. Clearly not related to budgeting. You need to check your bias. You are giving this woman heavier scrutiny just because she is black.
1
It's not just checking off boxes. She has been doing basically the same job for 15 years in Congress. And she has already been the acting director since the beginning of the year when Neera Tanden had her nomination pulled for mean tweets.
1
@Hatorian1 Quick question: What bachelors degree did all previous holders of this position have? You have two choices in college: Bachelor of Art, and Bachelor of Science. She's not running a science office, so it's irrelevant.
1
There is a budget. But it's just a guideline since Congress determines what is and is not funded.
1
Don't be racist. This is one of the reasons it's harder for black people to get employed. America laughs at people with black names and autimatically comes to negative assumptions about them. Please don't be a part of the problem. This is one of those examples of "systemic racism" that people keep telling me doesn't exist. Would you hire someone with an ethnic-sounding name? If not, you probably need to check your bias.

@axlegrind4212 It'd be hard to be more qualified than she is for this job. She's spent the past 15 years working on federal budgets and spending.

@lexstacks6944 It'd be hard to be more qualified than she is for this job. She's spent the past 15 years working on federal budgets and spending.

Well seeing as she has been dealing with money issues on the House Appropriations Committee in Congress for 14 years and has been acting director of the OMB for the past year. Seeing as she has the healthcare version of an MBA and has bipartisan support in Congress. Seeing as past OMB directors either studied law or politics, neither or which is accounting or finance. But they had connections and got the job. It seems to me like anyone hard working enough can fulfill the duties of this job. But because she's diverse, people like yourself are furious. Clearly you feel that not enough white people are being nominated to run things.
1
Every other past OMB director also had a Bachelor of Art degree. Why are you giving this person so much more scrutiny and criticism?
1
@julia1100a Considering most other people who ran this office either studied law or government, how is she any less qualified? When is the last time ANY president appointed an accountant to this position? Probably never. Not too many MBA's either. Check your bias. Just because she's black does not make her less qualified.
1
@julia1100a When did holding a non-government job become a requirement for holding a government job? Seems like it really is about her race for you. Why else would you be against her for this job? She has many, many years of related experience. Did you give this much scrutiny to Trump's white nominees?
1
@julia1100a Maybe you should look at her bio before calling her unqualified. You clearly have a problem with her race.
1
@julia1100a 14 years on the House Appropriations Committee. In case you didn't know, that means she spent 14 years dealing money and budgets. You have a race problem. Check your bias. Stop trying to hold people down because of their skin color.
