Comments by "Marcus W" (@Mawyou) on "President Joe Biden addresses the debt ceiling" video.
You are lacking basic understanding. The treasury does NOT have enough tax revenue to pay the bills. The debt limit will be breached on October 18 WHETHER OR NOT Joe Biden passes his infrastructure bill. We will NOT be able to make interest payments. Therefore it will destroy the "full faith and credit" of the US government. Republicans are CLEARLY in the wrong here. They are holding the entire economy hostage just scare Democrats into taking the blame for all of our debt existing debt.

James Bell And what evidence do you have of this?

@jpandyaraja Yeah see that's the problem. Republicans are perfectly fine letting the country go bankrupt in 2 weeks just because a Democrat is in office. Just to embarrass them. Debt went up by 8 trillion under Trump, but now Republicans want to hang all the Covid debt on Democrats. Cutthroat and vicious. How do you call yourself a patriot when you are more concerned with "owning the libs" than paying the bills.
3
@albertinsinger7443 Yes, Democrats could pass it all on their own through the Reconciliation process since Republicans are requiring 60 votes by filibustering it. But if Democrats do it on their own, they are basically taking credit for all the debt that Trump racked up in his last 2 years in office. This is a cutthroat move by Republicans who are holding the entire economy hostage just to be able to blame Democrats for all the Covid debt we racked up in the past 2 years.

If they don't raise the debt limit, you can be sure we will end up in a recession. It will be a huge self-inflicted wound. Why is it that Republicans are so comfortable holding the entire economy hostage when they are out of power? They did this to Obama TWICE. Cutthroat. Not once have Democrats ever done this to Republicans even though we hit the debt limit 3 times under Trump.

You want to know WHY Biden want to improve the lives of Americans? How about because that's his JOB.

@jpandyaraja I agree that too much debt is bad. And the correct way to solve it would be to limit spending and possibly increase taxes when times are good....to balance the extra spending and tax cuts when times are bad. And the reason I keep harping on Trump is because he did the EXACT OPPOSITE of that. He increased spending and cut taxes when times were good. Then Covid hit and now we're screwed. On the other hand you have Bill Clinton, who saw taxes go up and spending go down when times were good (he oversaw an actual decrease in the debt). Bush reversed that and Obama had to deal with the extra debt after the Great Recession. (Not to mention Republicans threatening to crash the economy if Obama didn't lower the debt "fast enough ") And the cycle repeats itself with Trump and Biden. In short, Republicans cut taxes, disaster strikes, and then Democrats are expected to come and clean up all the mess (debt included). Meanwhile Republicans are doing their very best to sabotage Democrats' repair efforts so they can get back in power. After my rant, I'm sure you can understand my frustration with the Republican Party. Time and again they seem to ONLY focus on short-term victories, then try to shift blame when something goes wrong.

@jjt171 The debt ceiling allows them to take out more debt for things they have already committed to paying for. They do NOT have a choice since the purchases have already been made by presidents from both parties. We will hit the debt limit WHETHER OR NOT we decide to spend any more money. Really we should just get rid of the debt limit entirely. You don't ask permission to pay the bills for stuff you bought. You just pay them.

I will remind you that most of those Americans who were "left behind" are also citizens of Afghanistan and have family there.

@amycourtneyarneson5101 Why would we impeach Biden? What are his "high crimes and misdemeanors". Nixon: almost impeached (ended up resigning) after covering up a break-in at the DNC.....basically caught trying to CHEAT in the next election. Bull Clinton: impeached for "lying under oath about an affair" ---- How petty Trump: impeached for trying to CHEAT in an election by blackmailing another country. Trump: impeached again for trying to overturn an election he lost AKA trying to CHEAT again. Why would we impeach Biden??
1
@amycourtneyarneson5101 You say Democrats are trying to poison us. Yet Republican presidents have faced impeachment THREE times for trying to steal elections (1x for Nixon, 2x for Trump). Then they play dumb and accuse Democrats of being cheaters.
1
@amycourtneyarneson5101 Actually it is NOT a violation of your rights. The Supreme Court has ruled more than once that vaccine mandates are legal. I'm afraid you're out of luck. Public health trumps your personal freedoms. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
1
@amycourtneyarneson5101 Good luck proving Biden cheated. The Republican led Arizona audit in Maricopa Country found that Biden beat Trump by even more votes than previously thought. Whoops! Hahaha Republicans have spent an entire year trying to prove that Trump never lost...with 0% success.
1
@amycourtneyarneson5101 And like I already said, the Supreme Court ruled decades ago that vaccine mandates do NOT violate the Constitution. I'm afraid you are out of luck.
1
@amycourtneyarneson5101 Yeah good luck with that 👍

@jpandyaraja First of all Mr. European, most of of the debt is not held by China or Japan. It is held by Americans in their 401k and brokerage accounts (anyone who holds government bonds). Second, yes we most definitly blame Trump, because with his excessive tax cuts and spending, almost 1/3 of the total national debt came from his FOUR YEARS in office. Stop trying to play the victim like we're just picking on Trump for no reason. It's HIS debt! Now Republicans are holding the entire American economy hostage just to force Democrats to take credit for all of Trump's debt. Republicans are CLEARLY in the wrong, but they will not miss an opportunity to "own the libs".
1
@jpandyaraja So is there a point you're trying to make Mr. European? You want to make fun of us for all our debt, but you don't want to talk about whose recklessness caused it. Why are we even having this conversation?
1
@jpandyaraja Exactly! Bill Clinton did it right. When it comes to the debt, most presidents get either the spending OR the tax part wrong (depending on how the economy is doing). But Donald Trump got both the spending AND the tax part wrong. But everyone seems to want to make Trump's mistakes into Biden's problem just because he wants to pass the agenda he ran on.
