Comments by "Marcus W" (@Mawyou) on "Biden rips GOP for not voting to raise debt limit" video.
@mothcake8928 What's weird is that Congress has to pass a separate law to allow them to pay for expenses they already authorized. This whole debt ceiling things is a stupid waste of time since it serves basically no purpose but to put us in crisis mode every few years. The debt limit should go up AUTOMATICALLY any time Congress authorizes more spending than they take in from revenues. You don't ask permission to pay your credit card bill. You just pay it.

The debt ceiling will never be lowered. It may seem strange, but many economists believe it is perfectly fine for a nation to spend more than they take in from taxes. Most nations do not have a balanced budget. But as long as economic growth and tax revenues keep pace with increases in the debt, it can actually good for our economy to use debt. As long as the money is used in ways that help the economy. If we were to actually try to lower the debt by dramatically cutting spending or raising taxes, it's pretty likely that would cause some decent damage to the economy.

@daniel5913 All countries spend more than they make. In fact, most economists believe that deficit spending is actually good for the economy....as long as the debt doesn't outrun economic growth. Case in point: to lower the debt, we would either have to decrease spending on long-term investments like infrastructure, healthcare, and education or we would have to raise taxes. Both options would be bad for the economy. Therefore we finance stuff with debt and pay it off later with with the extra money from faster economic growth. It's not so simple as "debt is bad". Debt finances growth.

@eby2257 No, they never said it would cost zero dollars. They said it wont add to the debt because they plan to pay for it all with taxes on the rich (salaries over $400k) and closing tax loopholes like Mega IRA rollovers. But besides that, why is it so hard to understand that spending money increases economic growth. Amd why not tax the rich more....wealth inequality is at record levels. It's strange you are calling their base dumb when you are the one lacking information.
1
@eby2257 Democrats are spending money to grow the economy. If you ACTUALLY look at what's in the bill, you will find it very hard to object to what's actually in it. Stop opposing stuff just because it costs money. You weren't like this when Trump was in office.
1
@eby2257 There you go again, forming opinions with only half the information. Tell me exactly how Joe Biden caused this high inflation. I might need to remind you that this is happening in countries all over the world?
1
@eby2257 Obviously spending 3 trillion does not cost zero dollars. The goal is that it will be PAID FOR. Read the bill, assuming you can read. Why are you playing dumb? Is that supposed to be like some kind of game. If you don't know something, google it.
1
@chrisd2193 Also don't forget Donald Trump. Between 8 and 9 trillion of the current 30 trillion of debt occurred under Donald Trump. Funny how he's not on the list. Almost 1/3 of all the debt
1
@eby2257 What are you talking about? Everything did not go to sh*t in only 9 months. Did you forget about ALL OF 2020? The economy is chugging along, the stock market has been hitting record highs all year. And unemployment is already down to almost 5% (a full year faster than expected). The fast recovery is one of several reasons for all the inflation. But I guess you didn't figure that out yourself.
1
@eby2257 You know it's funny because we would be in a very similar economic situation if Donald Trump were still in office during the record-fast recovery. But instead of complaining about inflation, you would be bragging about the low unemployment and the record stock market (just like you did before Covid). Funny how our party identification colors the way we look at things. Maybe try to take a more neutral view. For example, I am willing to admit that inflation is a big problem and Biden screwed up in Afghanistan. But at the same time I recognize that the economy is doing much better than expected. I can admit that Trump probably would have won reelection if not for Covid. But at the same time, he didn't give many people confidence that he could handle a major crisis. Try to consider ALL points of view
1
@sonnyjohnson8887 What I think is ridiculous is why we even have such a thing as a "debt ceiling". Basically every few years we have to go ask permission to borrow money to pay our obligations. It should be AUTOMATIC when we make the decision to spend the money in the first place. You don't ask permission to pay your bills after you already spent the money.
1
@eby2257 Bro, you REALLY need to get off the biased analysis. Kamala Harris was NEVER the "border czar". Her job was to try to figure out the root causes of all the immigration. What do you ACTUALLY expect her to do about the border. It's clear you're just looking for something to complain about. And I'm sorry you think it is Biden's fault that poor people come to America seeking asylum. As I said before, try taking a neutral point of view, using logic. You are smarter than these simple black-and-white analyses you keep throwing at me. Try to take emotion out of the equation.
1
@eby2257 Just a word of advice: Whenever you have to give excuses about why you "can't possibly be a racist," it's usually because you just said something incredibly racist. The old "my grandson is half black so therefore I can't be a racist". The old "I voted for Obama, so I can't be a racist" The old "I adopted a kid from Guatemala, so therefore my racist comments should just be overlooked".
1
@eby2257 "My wife and kids are Hispanic, so therefore I get a free pass to be racist".
1
@jax46 I watched the summary Fox News showed when they were trying to make it all look bad. They looked like complete assholes because the vast majority of stuff in the bill is liked by the vast majority of people. What asshole is against free community college, and money to support child care and elderly care. Especially when that asshole was only against spending money once it was the other party in charge.
1
@eby2257 "I adopted an Ethiopian! Therefore I get a free pass to say racist stuff. I paid $40,000 for a get out of jail free card!"

@phillippac.7469 I think maybe I need to remind you that having an abortion is VOLUNTARY. Not every young girl (who can barely take care of herself) who has sex and gets pregnant wants to spend 18 years of her life raising a child. And we know abstinence is a fool's errand for most young people. Why force a child to be born to a parent who is not prepared to raise that child properly? "Population control" would imply that people who have an abortion are being forced, which is not the case. What you are advocating for is a higher population of "unwanted" children.
1
@phillippac.7469 Please tell me why the government would stop us from having babies? You know they did that in China because they were a poor country and had several times the population of the US (I'm not saying it was right, just that we in the US would have no reason to implement such a policy). Also, I'm confused about what you mean when you say it was population control for the black community. If I'm not mistaken, it was still voluntary. And the alternative would be more broke mothers in hardship raising broke children in broke communities going to broke schools (continuing the cycle). As a black man myself, I'd rather have a slightly lower black population than continue to have us black people at the top of all the wrong lists and at the bottom of all the right ones. Just my opinion 🤷🏾♂️
1
@phillippac.7469 I agree that people who don't want kids should "try not to get pregnant." But obviously that's not working. Human beings have hormones and lose their self-control in the heat of the moment. We are biologically wired to have sex and not everyone is Phillippa with 100 percent self-control. So people have an accidental pregnancy and get an abortion. What's the alternative 🤷🏾♂️ Broke, miserable kids being raised by people who have no business trying to raise a kid? Also, I'm not big on speculating about conspiracies like future "population control." I'm trying to stick to the facts. I agree that abortions should be done early.
1
@phillippac.7469 Yeah I gotcha. But what more can you do besides educate people? Besides, only 1 in 4 women even have an abortion before age 45. That means most people are doing it right most of the time. I'm not advocating for more abortions, but I try to be understanding and keep things in perspective.
1
@klamsauce233 Millions of companies were founded by racists. So what. That's America. Abortion is still VOLUNTARY. As I told another commenter, as a black man I'd be okay with having a slightly lower black population if it means people aren't having kids they shouldn't be having. It's not a "benefit" to the black community when someone young and broke has kids they can't afford and don't know how to raise. All it does is continue the cycle, and I'm tired of us black people being at the top of all the wrong lists. Having kids when you are not ready is one of the biggest causes of poverty. Then you have kids growing up in poverty through no fault of their own. Let these people have their damn abortion if they need it.
1
@RealKlausSchwab Equating aborting a fetus to killing is a point of view. An opinion. A fetus has no thought processes or self-awareness. There is literally no fear or suffering. It is not viable outside the woman's body. On the other hand, forcing a woman to have a kid she doesn't know how to raise (or cannot afford) harms both her future and will likely have a long-term negative effect on the child. Having children before you are ready is one of the biggest predictors of poverty. And that child (through no fault of their own) will most likely spend their whole life trying to "catch up" to the other kids. Also, most women who have an abortion are not "excited" to have an abortion. They are doing it to keep their life on track. Why do you feel the need to butt in??
1
@drmartin5062 Okay then, Mr. Smart Guy. If it's only for future spending, tell me what happens if we don't spend any money from now until the deadline and Congress doesn't raise the debt ceiling? Your answer will tell me how informed you are on the issues.
1
@drmartin5062 As spelled out by Jaime Daimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, the debt ceiling is a limit on how much we can borrow to pay our CURRENT BILLS. Since we must pay our bills no matter what, the debt ceiling serves absolutely no purpose other than to hold the economy hostage so you can hurt the party in power. If you want less debt, you either raise taxes or decrease spending. You don't just refuse to take out debt when you need that money to pay your current bills. We wouldn't be in this debt situation if Donald Trump hadn't massively cut taxes AND increased spending BEFORE Covid hit. Being responsible for 1/3 of all the debt is one of his many "gifts" to America. In only 4 years! But now Republicans are suddenly "shocked" about the uncontrolled debt that they caused. Just because they're not in power. Totally unacceptable.
1
@Biden_for_prison I love seeing Republicans get so frustrated that we chose Joe Biden even though he's done some racist things in the past. Conservatives struggle so much to understand racial dynamics. While Biden may have said or done things that were anti-black, it's the consistency of the anti-black behavior coming out of the Republican Party that makes the difference. (I don't mean what you consider anti-black. I mean what black people consider anti-black). Democrats want to give black people a helping hand out of the economic hole racists put them in. Republicans want black people to climb out of the hole on their own (they think helping black people to equality is "reverse racism" --- not a good way to win black voters)
1
@drmartin5062 No, I don't blame Trump for Afghanistan or the border influx. I'm neutral enough in my views to admit when the Biden is in the wrong. Afghanistan was a HUGE blunder and Biden's approval rating has taken a HUGE hit for it. But I'm not just going to call the polls "fake news". Where you are mistaken however is when you say that what Biden wants to do is unpopular. When you ask people about all the individual policies in Biden's spending bill, it has a support of about 80 percent (look it up yourself if you don't believe me). It's only when you tell them it's part of "Biden's spending bill" that Republicans remember they are supposed to be against it. It was the exact same with Obamacare. Everyone loved it's individual pieces. But once you told them it was "Obamacare", Republican suddenly remembered that they were supposed to be against it. It's crazy town out there.
1
@drmartin5062 I didn't blame Trump because the economy shut down. That happened worldwide because hospitals were filling up (duh). I blamed Trump because he blew up the debt unnecessarily when times were good, then he had to bail out the economy when when we were already deep in a hole. Nearly every economist out there said that Trump's tax cuts were a BAD IDEA when the economy was already doing fine. But he just had to help out his rich friends. Now Republicans have the nerve to blame Biden, who has only been in office nine months, for Trump causing 1/3 of all the national debt. Totally unacceptable!
1
@drmartin5062 And to make matters worse, most Republican voters are completely fine with that nonsense, that Republicans are allowed to run up the credit card, but Democrats must only focus on cleaning up the debt. Republicans did the EXACT same thing to Obama after Bush ran up the credit card leading up to his recession. Totally unacceptable.
