@time847 There were 565 Princely States in 1946.What Nehru inherited from the colonial masters was only 1/3 the size of modern |ndia, which was basically Uttar Pradesh-Haryana-Bihar, which have a lot of people. He also inherited the colonial army and navy. With army and navy in hand, Nehru coerced all the princely states to join his empire. In July 1946, he warned that no princely state could militarily withstand the army of an independent India. By January 1947, Nehru clearly stated that the concept of the divine right of kings would not be accepted in independent India. Further escalating his approach, in May 1947, Nehru declared that any princely state refusing to join the Constituent Assembly of India would be treated as an enemy state.....That's why India is so prickly about sovereignty and having its claims challenged. If they don't keep a lid on things, their empire could collapse.

@time847 1) If India was ever a "country" before the British came, there wouldn't be 500+ Princely states/sovereign countries but a single country in the Subcontinent. 2) No coercion is needed to force the Princely states to join as one after the British left, if India ever existed before the British came. 3) No partioning is needed if India ever existed before the British came. 4) There would be a single common spoken/written language in India that unites all, if India is a country before the British came. Fact is, there is none before the British came. India is not a country before the British came. It is a region with hundreds of Princely states. Learn some real history. Skin color and common sense do not lie. You do not seem to be very smart.
