I remember the former willingly submitted himself to such humiliation and went to US on 14 Feb 2025 to beg and thinking that US might make some concessions for him on tariffs, but only to be slapped with tariffs in front of a press conference that were televised worldwide. Prior to Modi and Trump's press conference dated 14 Feb 2025, there was a batch of Indian deportees, about 104 of them, being deported out of US in chains and handcuffs on 5 Feb 2025. Indian medias and Indian politicians were enraged and were extremely unhappy. I remembered Shashi Tharoor said "it is not the fact of the deportation but the manner of the deportation that we are protesting". Fast forward to 14 Feb 2025, when a reporter brought out the topic about deportation and asked Modi for his opinion, Modi made no mention about the chains and handcuffs and neither did he protest. Fast forward to 15 Feb 2025, the second batch of deportess numbering 117 arrived, followed by the third batch of 157 deportees one day later in Amritsar. The manner which they are deported is still the same. All of them were chained and handcuffed.
