The three party government changing things without evidence compared to Labour's evidence gathering and here is an example of positive results...The whole section of SH3 between Bell Block and Waitara was reduced to 80kph in 2020 after 101 crashes, seven fatalities and 14 serious injuries were reported from 2009 to 2018. The Labour government committed $82 million to safety improvements along the highway between Bell Block and Waitara, including a number of roundabouts. Since the speed limit reduction, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand report showed there had been a 56% decrease in serious crashes, while minor crahses were down 44% and non-injury crashes were down 40%. There was no change to fatality rates, with two deaths reported after the reduction.
