@aj384 "The soviets didn’t document their early failures so the lack of records doesn’t surprise me." Yes they did, but the records were only released with glasnost and the fall of the Soviet Union. For example, Grigoriy Nelyubov, Valentin Bondarenko, the Nedelin catastrophe, Vladimir Komarov, the N1 rocket failures and the Soyuz 11 disaster. No Soviet or Russian cosmonauts have died during spaceflight since 1971. Not included are alleged unreported Soviet space accidents, which are considered fringe theories by a majority of historians.

+Thomas Curley "I suppose it could have been a spy plane, as a test flight of a high altitude airplane would require oxygen." How many female spy plane pilots, did the Soviets have in the early 1960's? Also, what aircraft did they have comparable to the USA's U2?

@joer8854 "I'm thinking if it's genuine it's a launch abort gone awry." Nope, there is no foundation for that assertion.
