It cost the current-day equivalent of a trillion pounds, and the lives of many British sailors. All done simply because owning other people as property was morally wrong.

In Britain, slavery was banned in the 11th century by William I. It was only a couple of centuries ago that Britain had the power to stop the global trade.

  30. Little known non-fact. The welfare state didn't start in 1948, and the foundation of the NHS was just a coincidence. It was just part of enacting the Labour manifesto of 1945. This also included nationalising major industries such as the railways and coal mines.

Any that did, could probably have saved up enough to get back to Britain, if they really couldn't hack it. Surely, Most saw it through, and their children would have seen Australia as home.

The £10 deal, was the best way to persuade people to travel to the other side of the World. Post-war Britain wasn't some kind of prison camp.

Which is what it should use any donations for. Not as a taxi service for economic migrants making the journey to get out of France.

It's not just people not giving them money that's useful. It's possible to withdraw moral support, and make it clear their taxi activities are not condoned.

When a country becomes full of Third World interlopers, it's going to end up just like the sh!tholes they came from. The main cities of the UK, are already heading that way. So much for the green and pleasant land of old. There was no need for this failed project. England could have remained the way she once was. Civilised and peaceful. It was also a fixed term contract, with remuneration being received at the end of that period. It provided a source of labour, when Britain abolished the trade in humans as property. Maybe, you need to do more research?

It was an experiment which the British people underwent. So the rest of the World didn't have to. However, that combined with Capitalism brought out of poverty more people, than any other system before or since. It aligns itself with the innate desire in humans to be successful in life.

You're getting mixed up with countries where all life, including children, is disposable. Even up to the current day. In the UK, The Mines and Collieries Bill, was hastily passed by Parliament in 1842. The Act prohibited all underground work for women and girls, and for boys under 10. The Mines (Prohibition of Child Labour Underground) Act 1900 was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The statute prevented boys under the age of thirteen from working, or being (for the purposes of employment) in an underground mine. An estimated 3,000 boys were affected by the new law, which was passed on 30 July 1900. Such laws were the first passed in the World.

As for the Ruzzians, things ain't going too well for them at the moment. they're not too popular in the countries they were relocated to. The USSR was technically a union of republics. So it's arguable that those other republics were not "occupied". Although, previously many had been part of the Russian Empire.

You can protest and offer all the what if's you want. However, the fact is that thousands of Brits left for Australia. There were still plenty left though, along with people from Ireland, to keep the economy going. There was even a baby boom, to eventually provide extra labour. There was no need to import labour from Third World countries. The same way as Japan didn't, and they lost many more men in WWII, than the UK ever did.
