Northern European culture is fairly homogenous and shares a lot of commonality. It is much easier to combine similar cultures and people's, than disparate ones. Less tension and confliction, must mean a more harmonious one.

  2.  @myrden965  "everyone was happy". Well, maybe not everyone. However, isn't a country where everybody shares a common heritage and culture. A long established, stable democracy and a common law system, going to have a greater level of happiness?

  3.  @myrden965  Social cohesion has a lot to do with it. People sharing bonds of family and a shared history. Surely a lower rate of crime contributes significantly to the happiness of a society? Especially, if you're the one who's spared of being a victim.

  6. The Vikings invaded Britain and their conquest was far from peaceful. In fact, it was often barbaric. However, do the British want place names of Viking origin changed? Of course they don't. They accept the names, and cherish them as part of their history. Do they want reparations from the Scandinavian countries? No, why would they. Do they hold any animosity whatsoever, to Norway, Sweden and Denmark? Again, no!

  10.  @myrden965  It's not about cultures being identical. It's about cultures being closely related and compatible. In the past sharing a common religion was of great importance. As the church was very influential in the way people lived their lives.

Was there anywhere in Western world that the jezus cult didn't penetrate? Britain was just a small part of the Vikings expansionist policies. They were by definition a sea-faring nation, like the British did later. They discovered North America, long before Columbus did. As well , they also voyaged as far as the Mediterranean, North Africa, the Middle East. On land, they even went as far as founding what is now modern day Russia. The close connection between the Rus' and the Norse is confirmed both by extensive Scandinavian settlement in Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine and by Slavic influences in the Swedish language. Though the debate over the origin of the Rus' remains politically charged, there is broad agreement that if the proto-Rus' were indeed originally Norse origin.
