📺 The narrator of this would appear to be the late Richard Baker. He was a presenter who introduced the first ever BBC News bulletin broadcast by the BBC on TV back in 1954. He passed away in 2018, aged 93. 📺

@helencheung2537 The film doesn't credit Richard Baker, but I recognised the voice. So I thought I would add the comment for the record. I can understand why you would like Hong Kong. A mixture of Chinese culture, along with the British values of respect for the individual, and the rule of law. However, there has been civil unrest in recent years, due to perceived interference from the mainland. Beijing has no respect for the fifty year agreement, which it said was invalid from the day it was signed. It was thought that five decades would be enough for the two systems of government to converge. Although half-way through, sadly, there doesn't seem to be much chance of that happening.

@Watchmaker_Gereon-Schloesser The problem with Göbel is that he never patented his supposed light bulb. So when Edison sued his company. Göbel had no defence. However, Swan had a patent. So he won when he sued Edison for patent infringement. Edison then sued Swan, but scared by the thought of losing, the two companies instead merged to form "Ediswan".

@markchriestenson3257 The pen was just an illustration of how not all inventions have a commercial value. When you mentioned the copy machine. It made me think of two episodes of the "Secret Life Of Machines", with Tim Hunkin and Rex Garrod, where they trace the history of the photocopier and Fax machine. The concept is actually older than you would think. If you're interested in the practical history of important inventions, you should check out the remastered original TV series from the 1980's, and also Tim Hunkin's new videos. Both are available on his YouTube channel.

@Watchmaker_Gereon-Schloesser The Swan base was first developed by St. George Lane Fox-Pitt in the UK, and used from 1870. It is known as the Bayonet Cap (BC), because the bulb fits into the holder, the same way as a bayonet was fixed to a rifle. It is good because the bulb fits tightly and cannot vibrate free. It's also used for fitting camera lenses. Germany was very late in adopting a system of Patents. The German Empire was founded in 1871, and in the first six years each state adopted its own policies. Alsace-Lorraine favored a French-style system, whereas others such as Hamburg and Bremen did not offer patent protection. Germany passed a unified national Patent Act of 1877. This is why Heinrich Göbel never patented his invention. The idea of patents goes back as Ancient Greece. So the idea is not new. In England the first patent dates from 1333. The English patent system evolved from its early medieval origins into the first modern patent system that recognised intellectual property in order to stimulate invention; this was the crucial legal foundation upon which the Industrial Revolution could emerge and flourish. This protection of IP, was the main reason for the the use of patents. However, there many cases where inventions have been given away for free. Or the inventor, has sold the rights to their invention. Also, the inventor might be working for a company. So the company owns the rights to the invention or innovation. If you like the idea of free sharing of products. Then open source software must appeal to you?

Linux distributions are the most famous and healthiest example of direct Unix derivatives. It is also more efficient than Windows, and can run on older hardware. This means less e-waste being sent to Africa or China. People always look at the past, and see it as a better time. In the future, people will probably look back at 2023 with good feelings. I don't know why this is so. Maybe, it does show that even with advances in technology. Things are getting worse, and not better?
