Those photoshopped images of the crab catching animals are ridiculous.

@Clefus-o6b "What the hell do mad cow prions have to do with crabs eating humans?" I never got through the whole video, as it's pretty cr@p. I don't know of any relationship between crustaceans an mammals, in respect of Mad Cow Disease. If it was mentioned it's a load of bollox, to use the technical term.

@evelynwaugh4053 Firstly, there aren't many cows on tropical islands, and if there were. The chances of any having BSE is zero. They don't even have in Europe anymore, as any infected cows were culled decades ago. Secondly, the crabs would have to become cow killers, or consume infected meat. Thirdly, crustaceans cannot become infected or transmit a disease which only affects certain mammals.

What?

Pincer, not pincher.

There are no coconut crabs in the Americas.

@tena2sweet This video is about Coconut Crabs, not migrating crabs, whatever they are.

@tena2sweet "Bridges and stuff". I don't think I watched the video that far. The quality of the content was too low to keep my interest.

@tena2sweet The video is cr@p. The title of the video told you it was about Coconut Crabs. Not crabs which are found in Florida waters, which are a completely different species. Coconut Crabs are only endemic to the Pacific and Indian oceans. They are not found in the Atlantic.

No. There are none in the Americas.

@Janis-kj5qi Dunno. Maybe, maybe not. It depends on many factors. They like tropical islands with plenty of coconuts and few people. I don't think Florida would provide the habitat they need to thrive.
1
They are crustaceans, NOT insects. A completely different phylum.

@evelynwaugh4053 As I said, I didn't watch the whole video, as it's stoopid. The OP wasn't being serious. There's nobody with BSE lying on some tropical beach waiting for some human skull cracking crustacean to come along and eat their brains. It looks like that little conspiracy theory can be now laid to rest, along with any corpses lying around.

@jaybe2908 Cannibalism was common outside the civilised World. The Papuans and Maori, are two notable examples. CJD made the jump between two mammal species. However crabs are not mammals, and don't get infected. So there is no risk if a human eats them.
1
No, because this video wasn't about the mitten crab.
