In particular, Jews were expelled from East Jerusalem in 1948; Jews fled from Hebron and Gaza back in the 20s. From 1947 to 1967, Jews could not even approach the Western Wall! And the Palestinian Arabs were probably satisfied with this rule, since they were not worried about creating their own state.
