Roman I feel so bad for all of us for so many reasons. I lived through the days of the cold war and was so excited to finally get a chance to see Russia in 2001. I loved it there and can't say anything negative about the Russian people. The one thing that I did notice relevant to what you are feeling is the difference in attitude and behavior of the older generation. There always seemed to be a general uneasiness of older Russians in public. One example is that I had rented a flat on Nevsky across from the Hermitage and the hallway was dark af. The building owner had placed a motion sensing light in the hall, but the older residents kept disabling it because they were convinced it was a camera and was watching them. The young were the opposite and had no problem showing affection in public and in general speaking their minds. This gave me such great hope for the future. Now that I know I will never see Russia again it makes me sad.
