  1. This is the strangest comment thread. The point is not to make money with solar. The point is to ease off fossil fuels and nuclear by reducing the load on the plants. If you can more than break even by placing panels on your home thats a win win. as far as investing in the stock market to get rich. If it was that easy everyone would do it.

  3. well aren't we testy. the stats I gave you are correct for those who OWN the stocks. Betting on if a stock will go up or down is not the same as owning the stock.   4. Oh my god. Everyone who has a 401k does not own stock. There are three major types of 401k's. some are tied to bonds, some to stocks, some to a combination. Some are aggressive in investment others conservative. for instance if you have a S&P 500 index fund it is set up to provide a gain if the S&P 500 goes up without actually purchasing the 500 stocks. The actual breakdown of those who OWN stocks is as follows: the top 10% own 84% of stocks. the next 10% own 9.3% of stocks the bottom 80% own 6.7% of stocks. Unless you are holding a stock certificate in the name of a particular company you do not OWN a stock. Bill Gates OWNS stock. Elon Musk OWNS stock. So unless you are reaching into your wall safe and pulling out stock certificates you do not OWN stock. Now bag that attitude and do some research.

  6. eastern thank you for acknowledging your mistake regarding stocks. The title of the video is "is solar worth it?" In it he explains how it is worth it because he will regain his initial investment and then come out ahead. All this while doing something positive for the environment. He said himself in the comment section that he was not saying that buying solar panels is the best way to invest your money to make a profit. You don't purchase a fuel efficient vehicle as an investment. You buy it because you want to pay less money in the long run by needing less fuel. You buy solar panels to provide electricity to your home in the most cost effective way possible. That it is also good for the environment is a bonus.
