Surprising to me that people don't study the 1918 pandemic. First wave was not so bad. It was the second wave that killed millions.

what you don't think giving the cruise lines a trillion dollars will save them? What would you have us do use that money to save lives?

aspi rine Sorry forgot to mention. We are also a much more mobile society than we were then. This makes spread of the virus much easier. Imagine the flu of 1918 killed people in small towns when many people never left the town they were born in.

@DerPilotMann In the US people are reporting they are being charged over $1000 by the hospitals just to get pulse checked and be told they have a fever. Many are staying home sick and not going for testing because they can't afford it.

We are in real trouble in Florida. Our Governor DeSantis is a Trump cultist. He named churches essential services and even encourages people to congregate in them.

aspi rine well actually the health care system being better or not was not the issue. Much like now the system at the time was unable to deal with the massive spike in cases. In addition, like now outlying areas did not have access to hospitals and they were all full anyway. We currently have tens of millions of people without insurance who will flood emergency rooms and still be denied help. The hospitals are already deciding who will live and who will live based on age and condition even with insurance. Many will do what we have learned to do and stay home praying they will survive and die there untested. Meanwhile spreading it to their family and friends. This is why entire families died in 1918. Actually the greater number of people and large city centers make now worse than then.

@jonaseggen2230 that is what I have been wondering. We know there are two strains the S and L strains. Are we dealing with one or both?
