Mostly because there is no waiving of ip rights for the vaccines and therefore no generic versions being manufactured. In other words in our current system people die to protect intellectual property rights.

Never done that in your life?

@doocieonu It may be true that it was accidentally leaked from the lab. His question is valid though. What do you do about it? Do we go to war? How will that work out?
3
If they can get enough of it.

@dushka2135 Can we please stop blaming the country where the variant was discovered? God damn how is that India's fault? We decided not to waive ip rights to boost manufacture so isn't this more the fault of the US than anyone else?
2
So you would feel better if the variant mutated in Australia?
2
Variants can and will pop up anywhere. As long as they refuse to waive ip rights to the vaccine we are screwed because they can not manufacture and sell it fast enough to stop the disease.
2
@neelatrivedi5777 Will throwing blame around help us in any way? Should we bomb China? Will that help us?
2
If they can get it.

How? Should we bomb them?

@Rägarded Why must you folks insult people and then have such an incorrect take on things. Of course it will not go away and before long a variant will mutate that the vaccine is not effective against. The delta variant is far more deadly and contagious and what do you think will happen when a variant mutates that the vaccine is ineffective against?
1
@vcoonrod Educate yourself friend your life may depend on it. There are three deaths that appear to be linked to blood clots that occurred after people got the J&J vaccine. Since we now know how to correctly treat people who develop these blood clots, future deaths related to this very rare side effect can be prevented. By way of comparison, getting COVID-19 while unvaccinated poses a grave risk; as of June 14, 2021 more than 599,000 deaths have been attributed to the virus in the US alone.

Because of ip rights vaccines can not be manufactured fast enough and wealthiest nations buy it up first. This is why poor countries are getting hit the hardest and variants are mutating as a result. Basically to protect share holders profits we have to die.
1
@tjmarx I consider Australia a wealthy nation. So they would be tenth in line). Seriously though I am not up on what Australia's vaccine issue is. I assume being so much like Americans they also have to deal with anti vaxxers so it would not surprise me if their primary problem with hitting 70% is peoples unwillingness to get vaccinated like it is here in the US. My issue, as I'm sure you are already aware, is that we are creating variants in countries like India and the African continent because we only want to make the vaccine available to those who can afford it.
1
@tjmarx That all sounds about right. Maybe right about the percentage. 70% is what we have been told.
1
Yeah! Let's bomb China! What could go wrong?
1
Because the manufactures will not wave ip rights to the vaccines and the US will not make them do so. For that reason only certain labs are allowed to produce vaccines and they can not produce enough of it fast enough. For this reason the wealthiest nations buy it up first and nations like India have it spread like wildfire and new variants are created. Likely soon a very deadly variant will come along that the vaccines are ineffective against.
1
Because the US refuses to waive ip rights to the vaccine so that it can be mass produced around the world. It is more important to protect profit over human life it seems.
1
@mehere8038 You made my point. If ip rights had been waived Australia could make their own vaccine. India could also manufacture and distribute a vaccine and had that been so we might not have the delta variant today. Countries being unable to manufacture generic versions of the vaccines are why poorest nations are such a danger to the world. They cannot control the spread of the virus and the subsequent variations that breeds.

@neelatrivedi5777 Where did I mention India? I think you replied to the wrong person.
