Hi John, hope that you are well. You wrote "earth is spinning at 1000 miles an hour". Nothing spins in "mph". mph are units of linear velocity. The correct rotational speed of the Earth is 0.000073 Radians per second which is half as slow as the hour hand on a clock. Take care.

@bikeguyhd1035 Hi BG, hope that you are well. You wrote "The moon is its own light source". No that is incorrect, the moon reflects sunlight. We can see shadows in the lunar craters, the illuminated half of the moon always faces the Sun. The lunar spectrum has been well analysed, it is reflected sunlight. Take care.

Lucky then that the moon is a solid object. Take care.

@geocentrist6567 Hi again G, hope that you are well. Unfortunately thousands of professional astronomers and literally millions of armature astronomers will disagree with you on that. Over a dozen countries or agencies have been involved in either landing, orbiting or lunar flybys. Lasers and radio waves are bounced off either the moons surface or (for better return signal) the retro reflectors on a regular basis. Invest in a telescope, look up, open your eyes and do a little research. Take care.

@geocentrist6567 Hi again G, hope that you continue to be well. The clock is always ticking, that is what clocks do. Reality deniers never produce any credible evidence for their assertions, that is what reality deniers do. Perhaps you may provide some credible evidence for your assertions? Take care.

@danielmconnolly7 "no wings, flaps or stabilizers". Just think about this Daniel. Take care.

@tgstudio85 Excellent answer, well done.

@edyg2551 Hi e, hope that you are well. It is pretty much guaranteed that anyone who mentions the Van Allen Belts as an insurmountable obstacle to space travel really knows next to nothing about radiation or these belts. The Van Allen Belts are called after James Van Allen, who is credited with their discovery. While travel through this region of space requires careful planning, it is not the insurmountable obstacle that many reality deniers, in their ignorance, imagine it to be. The Van Allen Belts is a region of charged particles originating mainly from the solar wind that are contained by the Earth's magnetic field. The capsule walls and equipment shielded the astronauts from the vast majority of the particle radiation. The radiation dosage received by an astronaut while passing through the Van Allen Belts will depend on factors such as speed, shielding, trajectory, time spend in the region etc. The aim of the Apollo missions was to minimise the time spent in this region of space and thus reduce the exposure to a minimum. Here is quote from James Van Allen himself in 2004. "the outbound and inbound trajectories of the Apollo spacecraft cut through the outer portions of the inner belt and because of their high speed spent only about 15 minutes in traversing the region and less than 2 hours in traversing the much less penetrating radiation in the outer radiation belt. The resulting radiation exposure for the round trip was less than 1% of a fatal dosage – a very minor risk among the far greater other risks of such flights". Take care.

@edyg2551 Hi e, hope that you are well, There is research that suggests that the 24 astronauts that flew to the moon experienced significantly higher rates of cardiovascular disease and other negative health outcomes compared to astronauts that never left Low Earth Orbit. There was also high rates of cancer in these astronauts. Take care.

@bikeguyhd1035 Hi BG, hope that you are well. You wrote "Just the other day the moon was transparent in the sunny blue sky". Your perception that the moon was "transparent" and the fact that there was a "sunny blue sky" are in fact linked. We see the sky as blue because the molecules in our atmosphere scatter blue light wavelengths far better than other colours/wavelengths. This is known as Rayleigh Scattering. Photographs taken on the moons surface will always show a dark sky as there is no atmosphere to scatter light. What you saw was the moon in phase with atmospheric Rayleigh scattering causing the sky to appear blue between you and the non illuminated portion of the moon. Take care.

No, not the whole US, just 24 individuals. Take care.
