Hi m, hope that you are well. You are conflating heat and temperature, they are not the same thing. The Van Allen Belts may have particles that have a very high velocity, therefore a very high temperature but as there are relatively few of them the overall heat that they contain is small and they can not transfer heat energy to a spacecraft in any significant amounts. The particles of a gas are constantly moving and the temperature of a gas is a measure of the average kinetic energy of its particles. The particles that make up the Van Allen Belts have a very high velocity so by definition have a very high temperature. However the particles in the VAB's are very spread out so density of particles in the VAB's is very, very low (millions of times lower than air at sea level) so the overall heat energy that they contain is very small. So for a spacecraft travelling through this region of space there will be relative few particles colliding with it and these few particles will be too few to transfer any great amount of energy to the craft. In short the VAB's are a region of space with a very high temperature but a very low amount of heat energy. Take care.

These few particles are moving at high speed so by definition they have a high temperature but because there are so few particles per unit volume, the VAB's contain very little heat energy. The Apollo Program is over and the Apollo technology is no longer being funded or built. How exactly does that cause an issue for you? Also can you explain using basic engineering and scientific principles what exactly is the problem with any of the Apollo spacecraft? Take care.

NASA's current challenge in relation to the Van Allen Belts and the Atriums Program is that modern electronics are far more susceptible to radiation damage than the electronics used in the Apollo era. NASA have to test thoroughly the guidance and navigation systems in the Orion spacecraft before attempting a crewed mission. Take care.

Temperature and Heat Energy are not the same thing. Do some study on the meaning of these terms and also on the number of particles per unit volume in the Van Allen Belts and you will have learnt something. Take care.

Nope. I think that what you actually mean is that one particular astronaut was asked about the Van Allen Belts several decades after the Apollo Missions by a known liar, fraud and reality denier who then highly edited the footage. Take care.

@ann_onn Just for the record, the temperatures mentioned are broadly correct however you can be sure that no conspiracy video would have mentioned that there are very, very few particles in the Van Allen Belts with these temperatures and also that Heat and Temperature are not the same thing. @Jesse-u2h The difference between Heat (which is a form of Energy) and Temperature (which is a measure of hotness and is proportional to the energies of the particles) is a very basic concept in Physics and is taught and understood by school children in most countries. The Space Shuttles were not capable of going to the moon The Apollo Program when to the moon 9 times and the belts are called the Van Allen. Your basic knowledge is on a par with your ability to locate the Caps Lock button on your keyboard. Take care.

@eventcone "No spacecraft was ever subjected to those temperatures"....Just for the record, yes they were but there are so few particles in the Van Allen Belts at these temperatures that there was no meaningful transfer of Heat Energy to any passing spacecraft. I calculate that the total mass of the Van Allen Belts is a few grams at most. They are regions of high temperature but very little overall energy. Take care.

@honestaussie5747 Thank you for your reply. You seem to be verging very close to the "I do not understand so it must be fake" line of thinking. The filming of the lift-off of the Ascent stage of the Lunar Module from lunar surface was taken using the Westinghouse TV camera mounted on the LRV. The upward tilt of the camera was controlled by Ed Fendell in Mission Control, Houston. The distance from camera to LM and the rate of ascent of the LM were known in advance so all Ed had to do was move a rheostat at certain rate starting at a predetermined time in the countdown. He had to allow for a communications time delay of about 2.5 seconds and a motor reaction time of 0.9 seconds. This was not attempted " for each and every apollo mission" as you suggest just for the Apollo 15, 16 and 17 missions. The first 2 attempts failed for various reasons but Apollo 17 worked quite well. @fiat2496 So why do you not back up what you say with evidence and explain in scientific and engineering terms and principles what is wrong with any of the Apollo spacecraft the would have prevented them achieving their mission? Why is it always claims with moon-landing deniers but never any actual evidence or even demonstrations of knowledge of the topic? Take care.

@chrisking6874 "why then not use the Apollo technology rather than modern electronics"........Are you seriously suggesting that they should use obsolete technology from half a century ago that is no longer being manufactured and is in now way compatible with current systems? Using modern electronics is a challenge not an insurmountable obstacle. You will be happy to know that the Orion spacecraft successfully passed through the VAB's twice in its 25 day test flight in December 2022. Try to keep up to date with reality. Take care.

I totally agree with your statement that "The aluminum skin of the Apollo CM is more than adequate protection from beta radiation of most energies" but I find it hard to understand where you are coming from when you write "beta radiation ......can be stopped by a sheet of paper".
