This is far more complicated than anyone can understand (over stand?) unless they know very well the laws and the lawmakers that the police agencies are sworn to "serve and protect." It actually goes to the "Supreme" Court and the judges and "people" that decide guilt/innocence from there. Many officers join the academy believing things that they soon unlearn, others still remain ignorant of their true power structure for years if not entire careers. It's even as serious as being able to compare them to a much larger policing force like an army. Who do you take orders from? What Who do they take orders from? Who ultimately gives the orders and who is the highest judge? That's the big one. Who is the ultimate authority? Answer that for your particular scenario and therein lies the answer to your question. In current times, corruption and greed seem to be more in charge than justice and equality. A Supreme court judge who worked for Monsanto? Hmm? Why did he leave? Is he just? If you want to know the answer you must first ask the correct question. Are cops good or bad is a start, but not quite the ticket. Just my two cents... this shit goes deeper than I care to dive on a public forum.
