  5. In 1938, Britain's air force was mostly biplanes, both fighters & bombers, whilst Germany had the Me109, Do17, Ju87, Ju88, He111, Bf110... If we'd gone to war with Germany in 1938, the British Isles would have been occupied in 1940. Chamberlain knew what he was doing, how distasteful it was but also how necessary in order to buy time for Britain to rearm. He hoped for three years a managed one. In August 1940, Britain was close to capitulation & only a supreme sacrifice by the RAF gave us survival, by the narrowest of margins. NO appeasement this time: Europe must rearm NOW.

  6. Russia is at WAR right now. Europe isn't. The US wasn't spending as much as Britain on defence in 1939. I very much doubt Russia's defence industry will see half the $470bn claimed, as the rest will be lining pockets...
