Cheap to run, saves wear & tear on more expensive aircraft, long loiter time & well suited to non peer, CAS & COIN operations. What's not to like?

@ChucksSEADnDEAD The A-10 has a lower flight hour cost than the F-15, F-16 & F-35, 65% less in the case of the latter. It's also more suited to the job. The rebuilds have been completed & thus have zero bearing on the matter. Which of the CURRENT USAF assets do you suggest takes over the A-10 role?

@mikenodine6713 The use of DU isn't mandatory & the intent is to do away with it in all munitions. As for "thousands of years of birth defects". Hyperbolic nonsense.

@mikenodine6713 Only the ignorant assume ignorance in others. I'm well aware of the issues regarding DU. Claiming the use of DU will cause birth defects & cancer for thousands of years is fact free, hysteria. Unlike some other elements, the human body excretes uranium quite rapidly. Here's a hint: Living in an area with granite rock exposes you to far more radiation than found on a battlefield due to radon gas coming to the surface.
