@Testimony_Of_JTF It doesn't matter if it's objecticely true or not for those people, they want it to be true, so they make their choices. That's basically the whole concept of religion to begin with, you wanting to believe something exists, and believing so much in it that you'd lay your life down for it, regardless if there's proof of it's existence or the opposite.
They aren't "lying" per se, because they believe that the stuff is true, even if there's no evidence to back it up. A lot of them would still believe it to be true even if there is objective evidence against it.
Believing that there is an afterlife where you'll be rewarded by god for being a good person is much more convenient than believing that there is nothing after death, as well as believing that all of your suffering has a purpose to it rather than your suffering being pointless.
The only liars when it comes to religion are the ones that attempt to gain something from it, like fame, power, money or whatever else, although one could lie in an attempt to make their religion that they thought up seem credible as well, to "sell" it to the masses or perhaps even do it out of "selflessness" towards anybody who could use a crutch to lighten their load.
