They aren't pulling political strings because they're strong, they're pulling political strings because they think they're strong. In their position, wasting resources doing such things is downright idiotic, but that's usually the kind of mismanagement that happens under authoritarian rule.

  4. Well the people with guns are all united so these protests aren't going to result in anything major. Now, if a faction of the communist party sided with the people, then we'd see this unrest turn into a real threat. Unfortunately, that isn't the case and all of this will more likely blow over before the CCP cracks down even harder on its people. Still, the CCP knows its decline is inevitable, and after quelling these protests will seize the chance to wage war, which more often than not leads the people to unite under a common cause.

  7. I agree. Their predictions are extremely short-sighted. In the long term, China is doomed due to their rapidly declining population, but to see what the result of these protests will be is a simple calculus. The people are angry, and the state has guns. They'll quell these protests by force if they have to, and they'll continue implementing more and more authoritarian restrictions until they gather their strength to invade Taiwan (and probably Korea as well)
