I think for small home projects Docker (or even full virtual machines) is a great technology - whether for Data Science or Software Engineering.

There are lots of them and they will be spread across a (likely) Gaussian distribution. Some research shows that as a rule of thumb 10% of people always cheat, steal and lie and 10% are honest no matter the consequences while the middle 80% follow the apparent incentives lying before them. These percentage change will the all kinds of factors but it gives a good feel. In other words, 80% are probably trying to get the answers that benefit their careers. That said - we are clearly fucking up this planet and CO2 is just one thing to worry about. The Republican idea that climate change is not real is a political motivated maneuver as their voters tend to work in dirtier industries - not that Democrats are any better - just different.

Courts normally jail people for intent or unrestrained recklessness. Mere carelessness is normally a rap on the knuckles. This does not apply to directors though, as they have an active duty of care and skill - so even mere carelessness can hurt them. There is also a massive different depending on what is at stake. Did you cover up bugs in a website or a nuclear reactor? Where those bugs incidental or critical? The judge or jury must decide things on many factors.
