  1. The dirty truth is that legacy automakers are 10 years behind. They can build 'near competitive vehicles' but underneath the veneer they are losing $100k a vehicle to do so, and sales are a trickle on top of that. They have too much debt and too heavy an investment in the outsource model to ever compete. 5 years from now expect BYD to be the world's number 1 automaker with Tesla in 2nd place and nobody in 3rd - think Android and iPhone.

  2. Unlike other imports, making vehicles locally creates a large number of high quality jobs. BYD is known to have 60000 engineers, to say nothing of the number of assembly line workers.

  3. You are starting to understand. The chassis will last forever, the motors will last forever. Battery packs will last 15 years and then you pop a new one in. Later versions will use battery packs that last 30, 50 or 100 years. Then are buying an asset that last longer than a house.
