  1. The dirty truth is that legacy automakers are 10 years behind. They can build 'near competitive vehicles' but underneath the veneer they are losing $100k a vehicle to do so, and sales are a trickle on top of that. They have too much debt and too heavy an investment in the outsource model to ever compete. 5 years from now expect BYD to be the world's number 1 automaker with Tesla in 2nd place and nobody in 3rd - think Android and iPhone.

  2. You are starting to understand. The chassis will last forever, the motors will last forever. Battery packs will last 15 years and then you pop a new one in. Later versions will use battery packs that last 30, 50 or 100 years. Then are buying an asset that last longer than a house.
