Option 2: CSP Solar, while more expensive than silicon panels, uses molten salts to store energy late into the night without any expensive batteries. Option 3: Use excess solar capacity for manufacturing hydrogen from water, or smelting aluminium, or any other high energy process that can be started and stopped.
