I think you are focusing too much on meh examples of current tech. The first cars were dangerous as hell, had to carry their own fuel and weaker than horses. The first computers were the size of a city block, required thousands of vacuum tubes the size of televisions, and required a team of people to run. AI is not the 2nd coming, quite the opposite, but like all tools a lot will depend on the decisions we collectively make. Consider, another tool, the nuclear bomb, barrring some regrettable decisions at the beginning, we have not nuked each other.
