You did learn something - don't close the glove box while updating software.

As a Tesla shareholder - a highly valuable and detailed look
8
Robotaxi = software Cybercab = purpose built vehicle
5
I almost didn't click this video. Boy would that have been a mistake.
5
If you have seen how my wife drives I would rather trust today's FSD to fetch the kids. Put a mannequin in the front seat or something.
4
I simply cannot believe it is impossible to know what an Uber charges. We are interested in California and Texas during peak times. Cheapest class of vehicle.
3
No doubt. But somewhere else in tobacco chewin gun totin America some MagaMan is buying a Cybertruck. And elsewhere a TransWetback is buying a model Y because (s)he simply cares more about value for money than politics. It is hard to call whether it is net up or net down overall. Randy makes a good point about the tribes though.
3
150 000 miles is way to low. Mechanically, the car lasts 500 000 with some repairs. You may have to replace seats at 250 000.

He became the richest man on earth doing zero paid marketing or advertising - I would say he is God-level communicator. He does not do it like everyone else.

Battery-less solar breaks even for most buyers after 5-7 years. If you are charging an EV with that, it could be 2-3 years. This is on a 20+ year life on solar systems. I think you don't understand the word expensive - maybe you just mean capital intensive - which is what banks are for.
2
Walmart won't have to fire anyone but those who rely on short term employment at Walmart or anywhere else may be in line for permanent unemployment. Some countries have social nets while others just have a homeless problem. Imagine 35% of the current US workforce living on the streets...
2
Coming next month. Or the month after.
2
also, Chinese, Europeans, Aussies, Danish - could not care less about cancel culture in Yankee Doodle Crazy Town.
2
It lacks the killer feature - FSD.
2
I think private ownership is BS. Tesla should own the fleet and use debt financing with banks/markets to finance it - no need to use Tesla cash reserves. Put it in a separate corporation with own management, employees etc. Different culture needed to the rest of Tesla.
2
Cathy Wood is talking about a Cybercab and not an owner run taxi like Brian - the two are Worlds apart in economics.
2
Included in FSD cost
2
I don't think so. Fast moving assembly lines are not the place for teaching bots. Sure Tesla will have some thing doing non-critical manufacturing work but tasks not related to assembly lines are where they will really start. Maybe tidying the house and folding laundry is good first job.
2
ALL the cameras?
2
Stretched? Wait until he buy Walmart.
2
I agree. But Tesla announced you can buy them giving no further details. I wish Tesla had just chosen to own the fleet 100% themselves.

Elon is also playing 4d chess. The winds of change are blowing in American politics. Black and Mexican voters are not longer broadly in the Democrat corner and it is showing up in the polls for the election. Why else would an illegal immigrant atheist scientist cityslicker with 11 bastard kids suddenly find a problem with wetbaks and transvesties at the age of 50?
1
? BYD also building a factory in India.
1
I noticed it too but I would say it is for adding emphasis to what he is about to say. An interesting oratorical trick.
1
As an accountant I can tell that Megapack revenue will not be recognized when it is paid, but rather as it is delivered.
1
I think repairs will be close to 0 for the first 5 years. Accident repairs under FSD will be covered by Tesla.
1
The deal you are reading is just a preliminary deal, no ways it is the deal Elon made.
1
Let your guests speak more.
1
I have used Xiaomi phones for a number of years. Their value for money is unquestionable but their software engineering is horrible.
1
"Tesla needs to open more delivery / service / collision centers." No worries, next year August it will drive itself to Chicago during the night, get the job done and be back by 7am 🙂
1
Cameras everywhere. Do that and face damages and even jail time.
1
8k Rebate may still be running if Biden oops Harris wins.
1
Thanks Randy - I really needed to hear the tribe analogy.
1
100% Tesla will include insurance but I think $600pm and not $200pm is what you are looking at.
1
It has to do with relative hate. Gop hates gays less than asians. It is a simple hierarchy system in their eyes.
1
@AudiTTQuattro2003 30-40k per year. But they cannot do 20 hour shifts while a Robotaxi can.
1
Tesla will regulate the price of their self driving software so there is only a small oversupply. A glut is bad, but you want oversupply so people don't wait for cars.
1
Elon agrees. Watch on 10/10 for prototype reveal.
1
Nvidia can't just do end-to-end because they don't have the camera data, the neural net architecture, the engineers. That said, there is not an infinite technical moat surrounding FSD - just like Bing cloned Google and China cloned Apple - but the mindspace advantage in Western markets is real - if you are first and you keep improving you dominate the market indefinitely. Look at Apple trying to create a self driving car and failing. No guarantees in this game, but I am betting my money on Tesla.
1
An Uber Driver is making $40k in the US. This is the available profit. $20k to Tesla and $20k to the owner. Or something like that.
1
Or bots can repair other bots in the field. Spare parts on hand or brought in with drone.
1
Tesla is already signalling they will go it alone. Uber does not really have a value add. Tech companies learned long ago they need to own the platform = otherwise they get hurt - see what Apple did to Facebook.
1
Gas cars are dying fast in China - the CCP has decreed that they should by subsidizing EV makers.
1
Taxing bots is impossible. Just tax corporate profits properly - no reduced rates via tax havens. And then tax billionaires with a 75% death tax, or if they try to live forever, at 80 years old.
1
Many of Elon's views are left leaning. Atheism, disregard for family life, tech disruption of gas, climate friendliness - even free expression of ideas. The problem is he left the tribe, if you will pardon the pun.
1
No way Robotaxi functionality is included in FSD. Maybe for some early vehicles but not for future vehicles. Wait for 8/8.
1
I think Tesla is going to charge $600 or more per month for Robotaxi FSD. This will include insurance while operating as a Robotaxi.
1
With Tesla is does. They don't squat. They patent what they build so trolls can't come after them.
1
In my neck of the woods getting an Uber in a Model Y costs 4x the cost of getting a ride in a Toyota Yaris or some tiny car. This should be a factor.
1
Other than you need a big computer for inference. Already the hardware inside a Tesla is massive by computer standards, and can't get much bigger without a die shrink or shift to ASICs. Â @FutureAzAÂ
