  9. No. They might make the taxis stainless steel like Cybertruck, with high mileage batteries, self closing doors and high wear interiors. Same platform means same production line like the S/X or 3/Y - cars can be fairly different.

So once Robotaxis are coming off the line every 20seconds it will be easy to switch to the Model 2, which is already designed and prototyped.   13. Your points are reasonable - but the future is quite uncertain. I would say testing starts next month as they hare hiring thousands of robotaxi testers right now. Also, they cannot add sensors so easily because they will lack data - the driving data is of the current Tesla fleet is video only. Robotaxi will probably not be used in heavy snow areas where you cannot see the edge of the road.

  15. The Robotaxi will be cheaper than Uber and completely private so adoption rates will be double or quadruple Uber. Each one is worth $500k over five years while each model 2 is worth $5k. They will be welcomed and work great in other places, just like Uber have. I think we are going to need 10m a year until 2030. Model 2 will be weak value compared to BYD outside the US, mostly because the CCP subsidize it.

  16. I can see a future where Robotaxi is successful and the others suddenly pay attention. Then Waymo, Ford, Gm, VW and Toyota form a consortium and each contribute $5b and put cameras on their cars and hire a lot of Tesla's engineers. Will lots of capital and urgency they get it up and running in 3 years. They buy EV designs from BYD. They pay politicians handsome donations. Suddenly you do have a major competitor. Tesla will be ahead. Nobody is immune to competition.

  24. Even with just the latest available version the issues with it are known - a guy keeps a massive spreadsheet rating every aspect. There are a whole bunch of things that need work but each of those is a solvable in a month or two. Think of a marathon runner when he finally sees the 1 mile marker to the end - he knows for sure that he is going to make it and can expend the rest of his mental energy.

  34. I think Farzad's demand number of 1 million taxis is a poor one. Adoption will 10x because it is half the price of an Uber with the convenience and privacy of an own vehicle. People will sell their vehicles and use Robo Taxis.

  37. Everything I heard here makes me believe that pushing Robotaxi in front of model 2 is a genius move. Worldwide, it took from 1885 to roughly 1960 for cars to pass horses as the main mode of transport. That is 75 years. I think Ev's will knock ICE out in 20 years but 5 years is out of the question. Early majority have not yet taken to Evs, to say nothing of the late majority or laggards.
